Currently: Mermaid Hair Edition

July 9, 2014

So I just realized that despite having absolutely nothing to do since summer school ended on Thursday I’m a bit behind on this blog of mine and I feel like a lot has happened that I wanted to write about. In that case let me clarify that “nothing to do” statement because i’ve been up to PLENTY. 4th of July fireworks and family hangs, obviously changing up my hair color (!!!!!), working Comedysportz for the first time and boy was that eventful, working with my sister on parallel parking and taking her to get her license, writing bios for foster dogs to be marketed, Bub finally getting in his test scores and passing!!! SO many things and this was my week off! Tomorrow I begin my 3 day comedysportz weekend with practice Thursday, working the matches Friday, and a workshop on Saturday. We’re leaving for a week in Laredo right after the workshop on Saturday too so i’m pretty excited. There’s a lot to look forward to for the rest of the summer.

Reading: Monday night I finished Sea of Shadows by Kelley Armstrong. It was a solid “meh”. It’s the first book in a trilogy so i’m going to give it the room to grow because I liked the world and the characters, but I like for my books to stand on their own even when they’re part of a series and I definitely felt like it didn’t do that. I started A Breath of Frost by Alyxandra Harvey yesterday and i’m having a hard time getting into it despite the fact that i’m really loving the world that is being established. I just hate it when authors throw roughly 20 characters at you at the exact same time and then slowly introduce them later. I was confused as hell for the first 60 pages. I’m also supposed to be reading the #noveltea bookclub (click the button in the sidebar!) but it’s trapped on my kindle which i’m too lazy to charge because my android charger is now in my car and stairs are hard. I know i’m terrible because I really am missing out on so much going on in the facebook group! I’m hoping to stop being lazy and charge it tomorrow, especially if Breath of Frost continues being this dull and confusing. (pssst: click the goodreads button in the sidebar so we can be book bros! I’m trying really hard to keep up with it now.)

Watching: Orange is the New Black still. I’m watching it with Mando and his suspension of disbelief is off the charts so we have to take it slow because it’s just too much too fast. Although I could binge watch it forever. Also Chris gave me a copy of Snow Piercer tonight and i’m freaking stoked to watch that, i’ve heard such wonderful things already. I’m also not going to lie to you, i’ve watched a few episodes of Toddlers and Tiaras. I’m not proud.

Listening: Right now i’m wrapping myself up in Fever Ray and never coming out. I’m surprisingly not spending my days in front of the computer as much so music is not always on for me but i’ve been listening to Touche Amore’s …to the Beat of a Dead HorseΒ while driving and man that is such a powerful album, I have a really hard time not doing too much car drumming/fist pumping/body moving? to that album. I’m so glad I got to see them twice when they came through with AFI.

Loving: MY FREAKING HAIR! It’s so cool! And it’s exactly what I was hoping it would be despite the blonde part not going well. I tried to get away with not bleaching and instead tried to just dye my hair light blonde, that only worked insofar as turning my hair one shade lighter. I went ahead and just test dyed the bottom of my hair blue and when that came out awesome I dove in and did the rest the next day. My mom helped me with it both times and that woman got so much aquaphor in my ears i’m still finding it and I feel like S2E01 of OITNB over here. I’m so pleased with the result and i’m so happy I didn’t just dye the bottom. I’ve also gotten so much love from everyone about it and damn do I feel confident. A little kid almost fell over trying to look at me today in the grocery store so i’d call this a success. And for those of you wondering, I have 6 weeks of summer left, it will be gone by the time I have to go educate children again. I’m looking forward to the slow fade to green this time, I can already tell it’s going to be an awesome emerald once the blue falls out of the teal.

Doing: Lots of Comedysportz and lots of traveling. In the next few weeks I will go to Laredo, come back, watch my cousins and sisters while my family goes to Nevada and Utah, back to Laredo, and then on to Michigan to see my family! Other than that i’m just cuddling the dogs and reading books. I thought for a while that I might have overbooked my summer because of how bored I ended up being last year but I really do think this is the perfect balance of activity and adventure. Plus Comedysportz has been amazing so far and i’ve already met such wonderful people. I know this next year is going to be super busy but hopefully taking it one day at a time will help.

Also I found the quizup app yesterday and i’m already #3 in the country in the Neil Gaiman category and I think that says a lot about how boring I was finding my book. It also makes me REALLY want to re-read Gaiman’s works (seriously what is the author version of a discography!?). I at least want to re-read Sandman soon. I’ve got 1-4 in the Absolute volumes now so it’s not like it’s not an easy enough thing to do. It is a LOT to read though.

Wanting: I really want a liquid eyeliner for dummies. I want to be able to do a cat eye! I bought some new makeup today (including the new manga eyeliner and man that stuff is awesome!) and I bought what I thought was a really awesome cat eye specific eyeliner and nope, just a really blunt creme liner. boo. The search continues I guess.

Feeling: full because we went to a churascaria tonight to celebrate Mando’s test scores and impending job. Also happy because it looks like stuff is on track life wise. And super loved as always. The summer has been nice to us and it’s definitely showed up in our relationship and how attentive we’re both being, and downright stupid happy. That’s all good.

Looking forward to: All of the traveling! And back to school shopping i’m not going to lie. I got a 30% off coupon for Kohl’s and man I can do some damage on that clearance section with that. Now that I have enough generic work wear i’m really hoping to add more pieces that fit in well with my personal style more specifically. Not to say that I own a bunch of stuff that doesn’t look like ‘me’ but at the same time I also have a lot of things that are professional but not very personal. I hope that makes sense.

Well that’s what’s going on with me lately. I’m off to give this book another shot.

What have y’all been up to? And does anyone know what the author version of a discography is? Bibliography sounds bad and i’ll be crushed if that’s actually correct.

Until next time,
Meagan

I’ve been using Benefit’s new They’re Real Push-Up Liner and I’ve been killing at doing a cat eye. It’s my favorite liner I’ve had, totally worth $25. It does take a little getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it’s totally easy. Putting on my eyeliner is so much easier and faster! I highly recommend, it’s the only black liner I used.

I JUST read another blogger’s review of that eyeliner and it sounds awesome except she said she didn’t like it anymore because it gets super crumbly πŸ™ I might just try it out though because she said the same thing about it being able to draw nicely.

I find that if you just clean it off before recapping and again when you’re about to apply, keeps it from getting crumbly. I have experienced some crumble, but once I kept it clean, the crumble stopped. I think it crumbles due to old liner being on the tip and the old liner being dry. Once it’s clean the new liner clicked out is just fine.

Good to know! I might have to go give it a try then.

I love your hair. LOVE IT! That is super cute.

And a Sandman re-read. YESYESYES! I had lent my copies out a few months ago, but I’m hoping to have them back tonight. I’m so itchy to re-read that series (…after Mr. Penumbra, Harry Potter and a half dozen books about pregnancy, labour and delivery, OF COURSE…. )! Oh Gaiman. So much love.

Thank you! I’m so in love with it.

I used to read Sandman twice a year but I haven’t read the whole thing in two years now and I’m starting to feel withdrawals.

I love your hair! I’ve been going back and forth on what crazy color I want to dye mine and I think I’ve finally settled on a purple/turquoise combo. So I kind of squealed when you mentioned AFI, haha. They’ve been a favorite for many years. And Touche Amore is amazing! I had the pleasure of seeing them when they toured with AFI, too. Such a great show. I’m also still trying to figure out the secret to the perfect cat eye. I keep hearing that gel liners work really well (and I haven’t had much luck with liquid) so I may have to give that a whirl.

Oh man purple/turquoise would look so good! I always think blue hair of any shade looks good on anyone though, so I may be a bit biased haha. And YES! I love meeting other AFI nerds! I may or may not have some STS liner art tattooed on my back. AFI is one of those subjects where i’m always hesitant to let people in on because you either get the “Oh, them? Really?” response or you get the “YES! ME TOO!” but that second one is so rare and most of the time you just look like a dweeb. I’m glad it panned out this time.

I agree! I don’t think I’ve ever seen blue hair that I didn’t like. There’s just something about that color. Awesome, I love all the STS artwork. A few years ago, I wanted to get a few of the icons tattooed on me, but that never came to fruition so now I’m actually planning on getting a substantial Art of Drowning piece. I totally get what you mean. I’ve gotten too many, “Ew, you like AFI?” comments over the years, haha! It’s been a while since I’ve met a fan outside of shows.
